2011 Ford Fiesta Rated at 4.9 L/100km Highway
Anyway you slice it 5.9 L/100km on the highway is good, but coming from a car as stylish to look at and fun to drive as Ford’s new
Fiesta makes that number even more enticing.
What’s more, 5.9 L/100km is the US EPA rating, a much more conservative and therefore more realistic fuel efficiency determination than Canada’s EnerGuide rating system. Via Canada’s system, the Fiesta is good for 4.9 L/100km highway and 6.8L/100km city.
In the city, where it’s likely to be used more often, the Fiesta boasts the equivalent of 8.1 L/100km via the EPA cycle, not hybrid-like but nevertheless more than decent.
No doubt Ford’s new Powershift automatic transmission has something to with numbers that
beat Toyota’s Yaris and Honda’s Fit by four and five mpg, respectively. It’s a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox, a first for this segment.
Fiestas sporting the DIY 5-speed manual gearbox could only manage an equivalent EPA rating of 8.4 L/100km city and 6.3 L/100km highway, and 7.1 L/100 km city and 5.3 L/100 km highway by Canada’s standards.
The 6-speed dual-clutch sequential automatic makes the most of the new 1.6-litre four-cylinder, complete with 120 horsepower.
